Publication Ethics

ALWAQFU: Journal of Economic Law and Waqf is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal that serves as a platform for the publication of research and academic studies in the fields of economic law, Islamic economics, waqf, and related disciplines. This statement outlines the ethical standards and responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, the Editor-in-Chief, the editorial board, peer reviewers, and the publisher.

Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication

The publication of articles in a peer-reviewed scholarly journal is an essential component in the development of a credible and respected body of knowledge. Published articles reflect the quality of the authors' scholarly work and the institutions that support them.

Therefore, standards of ethical conduct are necessary for all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, peer reviewers, publishers, and the academic community.

The publisher of ALWAQFU: Journal of Economic Law and Waqf is committed to maintaining integrity throughout all stages of the publication process. Commercial considerations, advertising, or other sources of revenue shall not influence editorial decisions.

Publication Decisions

The Editor is responsible for deciding which submitted articles are suitable for publication in ALWAQFU: Journal of Economic Law and Waqf. Such decisions are based on the scientific validity of the research, its academic contribution, relevance to the fields of economic law and waqf, and its value to researchers and readers.

In carrying out these responsibilities, the Editor is guided by the policies of the editorial board and applicable legal requirements, including those related to defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. The Editor may consult other editors or peer reviewers when making publication decisions.

Plagiarism Screening

Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts are free from plagiarism and other forms of academic misconduct. However, the editorial team also conducts plagiarism screening before publication.

Manuscripts will undergo similarity checking using appropriate tools or systems as part of the journal's commitment to maintaining academic integrity and originality.

Fair Play

Editors shall evaluate manuscripts based solely on their intellectual and academic merit, without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political views.

Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of information related to submitted manuscripts. Information about a manuscript may only be disclosed to the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate to the publication process.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Unpublished materials disclosed in submitted manuscripts must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.

Duties of Peer Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists the Editor in making editorial decisions and may also help authors improve the quality of their manuscripts through editorial communication and constructive feedback.

Promptness

Any selected reviewer who feels unqualified to review a manuscript or is unable to complete the review within the required timeframe should promptly notify the Editor and withdraw from the review process.

Confidentiality

Any manuscript received for review must be treated as a confidential document. It must not be shown to or discussed with others without authorization from the Editor.

Standards of Objectivity

Reviews must be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly and support their recommendations with appropriate academic arguments.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. If there is a substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and another published work, the reviewer should bring this matter to the attention of the Editor.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Information or ideas obtained through the peer-review process must be kept confidential and must not be used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, institutional, or other relationships with the authors or parties connected to the research.

Review Process

Every manuscript submitted to ALWAQFU: Journal of Economic Law and Waqf will undergo evaluation by qualified peer reviewers through a double-blind review process.

Decisions regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection are based on the recommendations of peer reviewers and editorial considerations. In certain circumstances, the Editor may appoint additional reviewers when necessary.

Duties of Authors

Reporting Standards

Authors must present their research findings accurately, objectively, and responsibly. Data and information used in the research must be presented truthfully and in a manner that can be academically justified.

Manuscripts should contain sufficient information and references to enable the research to be understood and, where possible, verified by other researchers. Fraudulent, misleading, or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical publication behavior.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that their submitted work is entirely original. If authors use the work, ideas, data, or writings of others, appropriate citation and acknowledgement must be provided in accordance with academic standards.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

Authors should not publish manuscripts describing substantially the same research in more than one journal. Submitting the same manuscript simultaneously to multiple journals constitutes unethical publishing behavior.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Authors must properly acknowledge the work of others that has influenced the research or scholarly study being reported.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, analysis, or interpretation of the research.

All individuals who have made significant contributions should be listed as authors. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all appropriate co-authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission for publication.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial or substantive conflicts of interest that could influence the results or interpretation of their research. All sources of research funding should also be disclosed transparently.

Errors in Published Works

When authors discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work, they are obligated to promptly notify the Editor or publisher and cooperate in issuing corrections or retractions where necessary.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools Usage Policy

Introduction

ALWAQFU: Journal of Economic Law and Waqf recognizes that developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies offer significant benefits for research and academic writing. AI technologies may assist in improving language quality, supporting data analysis, and facilitating information processing.

However, the use of AI must be conducted responsibly while preserving academic integrity, originality, transparency, and accountability.

Definition of AI Tools

For the purposes of this policy, AI tools refer to software, platforms, or systems that utilize artificial intelligence technologies, including machine learning, natural language processing, and deep learning, to generate, edit, translate, summarize, or analyze content.

Examples include generative language models, AI-based language editing tools, AI-powered data analysis software, visualization systems, and tools that support literature reviews and citation management.

Acceptable Use of AI Tools

Authors may use AI tools for limited purposes, including:

  • Correcting grammar, spelling, and punctuation;

  • Improving clarity and writing style;

  • Assisting with reference and citation formatting;

  • Supporting preliminary literature searches;

  • Assisting with data analysis under appropriate human supervision;

  • Assisting in the creation of illustrations or visual materials that comply with ethical standards.

Prohibited Use of AI Tools

AI tools must not be used to:

  • Generate an entire manuscript or substantial portions of scholarly content without appropriate human oversight and accountability;

  • Fabricate or falsify data, findings, or visual materials;

  • Translate scholarly content without human verification;

  • Paraphrase or summarize existing literature in a manner that constitutes plagiarism;

  • Produce content that infringes copyright or improperly uses third-party materials without authorization.

Author Responsibilities

Authors bear full responsibility for all content submitted to the journal, including content created or refined with the assistance of AI tools.

Authors must ensure:

  • The accuracy and originality of all content;

  • The absence of plagiarism, bias, or factual inaccuracies;

  • Proper citation and acknowledgement of all relevant sources and data;

  • That AI-generated content has been critically reviewed and verified;

  • Full accountability for any errors or ethical violations resulting from the use of AI.

Authorship and AI

AI tools are not eligible for authorship or co-authorship. Authorship is reserved exclusively for human individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions and can be held accountable for the content of the scholarly work.

Listing AI as an author, contributor, or co-author in any form is not permitted.

Disclosure of AI Use

Authors must disclose the use of AI tools when such use goes beyond basic language checking or technical editing.

The disclosure should include:

  • The name of the AI tool used;

  • The version or developer, where available;

  • The purpose of its use;

  • The extent to which AI was used in the research or writing process;

  • A statement confirming the authors' full responsibility for the manuscript.

Placement of AI Disclosure

The Acknowledgements Section, when AI has been used for language editing, translation, or formatting assistance.

A Dedicated Statement, where appropriate, under the title Declaration of Artificial Intelligence Tool Usage.

"During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [name of AI tool] for [describe the purpose of use]. All AI-assisted outputs were critically reviewed, verified, and revised by the authors. The authors accept full responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the entire manuscript."

Editorial Oversight

Editors and peer reviewers may consider disclosures regarding AI use as part of their ethical and methodological evaluation of submitted manuscripts.

If undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI is suspected, the editorial team may:

  • Request clarification from the authors;

  • Request revisions to the manuscript;

  • Reject the manuscript;

  • Conduct an investigation into potential ethical misconduct;

  • Take further action in accordance with applicable academic and publication ethics policies.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

Failure to comply with this AI policy may result in:

  • Immediate rejection of the manuscript;

  • Retraction of an article after publication;

  • Notification to the author's affiliated institution in cases of serious misconduct;

  • Restrictions on future submissions in cases of severe or repeated violations.
